To meet the needs of a growing population, Ku-ring-gai Council has developed an innovative and award-winning Open Space Acquisition Program to provide much needed parkland for the community. Together with another award-winning program, Activate Ku-ring-gai, Council will deliver over 50,000m2 of new local parks and civic spaces within close proximity to high density residential areas in Ku-ring-gai over the next 20 years.


The role will work within Council's Urban Design Team, a multi-disciplinary group including architects, landscape architects and urban designers. The team is responsible for preparing masterplans, policies and guidelines and concept plans across the areas of built form, public domain and open space.


The role will be primarily responsible for:

  • Developing and implementing innovative strategic policy, plans and concepts;
  • Identifying new open space opportunities through technical assessments and studies;
  • Managing open space planning projects and processes in collaboration with other council teams and programs to deliver best-practice open space planning outcomes;
  • Identifying and overseeing new park projects – from early stages through to delivery – to ensure design excellence and consistency with Council's strategic direction.
  • Managing the planning and implementation of Green Grid and Greener Places initiatives

To be considered for this role you will require tertiary qualifications in Landscape Architecture and substantial experience in a similar role. In addition you will have advanced design skills and some experience in policy preparation, as well as be able to demonstrate a commitment to design excellence and sustainable outcomes.


This position is 35 hours per week with access to flexi time.
