Position Description

  • Salary $74,628.84 – 86,569.60 p/a + super
  • WHS experience
  • Class C Driver’s Licence & NSW Occupational Health and Safety Construction Induction Card Essential


Ku-ring-gai Council is seeking an experienced Work Health and Safety Officer to ensure all safety obligations are met and the prevention of workplace accidents and injuries.


Reporting to the Team Leader – Corporate Risk & Assurance, this role will see you provide support and guidance and assist in the implementation and maintenance of best practice work health and safety initiatives across council.


Applying your understanding of Work Health and Safety legislation and its practical application you will be required to conduct incident investigation, risk assessment, health and safety audits, hazard and compliance audits and work place inspections.


Utilising your initiative and forward planning you will ensure all safety documentation is up-to-date and contribute ideas that improve the efficiency, effectiveness and productivity of the overall work health and safety function. You will also implement strategies and deliver training as required to support corrective and preventative actions and be committed to building a positive culture towards proactive safety behaviours. 


Your superior communication and negotiation skills will allow you to engage effectively with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders and you will also provide advice to line managers, encouraging safety leadership to ensure compliance standards as per legislative requirements.


To be considered you will hold formal tertiary qualification at a Cert IV or higher level in Work Health & Safety and have previous experience in a similar role.  You will be computer literate with experience in the use of Microsoft Office products including Outlook, Word and Excel and have demonstrated experience in report writing.

A Current Class C driver’s licence is essential, along with a NSW Occupational Health and Safety Construction Induction card.
